Provenance

This stretcher was donated by Killin Mountain Rescue team who had it lying in their equipment store for many years. Neither they, nor us, know much about its origin and we'd be delighted to hear from anyone who does. It looks like a military prototype of some sort and would seem to date from WWII or maybe a bit later. Donald Duff was a surgeon at the Belford Hospital in Fort William and leader of Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team in the 1950's and he certainly did experiments with lots of stretchers so this could be one of his prototypes. It's very heavy and very robust and has provision for some kind of wheel system. The bed seems to be a standard military, canvas and wood litter. A bit of a teaser and certainly unique.
