Don Whillans seems to have designed his Whammer for use on the 1970 Annapurna South Face Expedition, though in the words of expedition member, Ian Clough
“ although everyone was issued with a Whillan’s Whammer, climbers tended to use their own”
He was referring to piton hammers/ ice axes.
Although the Whammer had multiple uses; piton hammer, ice hammer, abseil device, beer bottle opener, plus several more, it was not a success and was consigned to the DIY department by many of those who owned one.
This particular one came from Troll who had produced the originals and is missing a wee bit at the bottom of the handle.
