Tubular drive-in ice pitons. Six holes round tube and karabiner ring attached through hole at top. Wedged at tip.

Well rusted and well used, these two ice pitons are a fine example of the ‘ homemade’ world of mountaineering in the 1950/60’s, a time when gear shops were few and far between and climbers went to work in the shed to create their own gear.
Threaded ice screws didn’t appear until 1960/61 indicating that these two fellas pre date that.
They are hammer in, hack out variety - hard work and time consuming - the super, fast screws of the future were still a dream away.
