Provenance

We are not really sure if this is a piton hammer or an ice hammer though the former is the best bet as the rather bulbous shaft doesn’t make it very handy for plunging into snow or ice, a fairly essential feature for an ice tool.
Stubai are very good at making strong, robust mountaineering gear though it’s rarely very exciting.
Based in Austria, they usually get a famous Austrian to endorse their products, in this case it is Reinhold Messner.
We are not sure where this one came from as we often get a pile of gear left in a box at the back door..
A nice wee addition to our collection of hammers anyway.
