There's not a lot to say about a camp bed, though ones of this type and weight would seem to be of the more military type and use, as we can't imagine anyone heading for the hills with one strapped on their rucksacks! There's a faded logo on this one indicating that it was made by the 'Gold Medal Camp Furniture Manufacturing Company' They were an American Company which began life in 1890, and interestingly perhaps, one of their first products was the 'Gold Medal Cot' invented by Louis Latour. The Americans call camp beds, cots. We are not sure if ours is a Louis Latour, we are not even sure where we got it from - it seems to have been around for a while though - we guess 1920/30's - and it has one of the crucial elements - a wonderful smell of wood, canvas and age!
PS Gold Medal Camp Furniture Co. marketed a folding house at one time! They are still in business in 2011.
