Provenance

Most armies of the world have a basic cooking stove for issuing to individual soldiers and the one we have here in the collection is the Swedish Army’s version, or at least one of them, as there seems to be lots of other versions around. If you are interested there is a website called Classic Camp Stoves where you can find out much more.
Our little stove is designed to run on methylated spirit (Swedish Rodsprit) using the Trangia style burner though solid fuel such as Meta or Hexamine can also be used: twigs and wood shavings will also work in extremis.
We are not sure when this particular model appeared on the scene and wonder if the stamp ‘ST89’ that appears on the billy can is a clue, or NC68 on the pot holder(?) It also seems that Svea made the cookset but Trangia made the burner- one of the many puzzles these items provide us with - let us know if you have more information.
