Pair of wooden skis possibly 1930's with 'newer' safety bindings fitted. Signs of previous bindings apparent. Red painted sole. 1936/37 edges to rear thinner and narrower.

Another set of skis that we inherited from the Scottish Ski Club, unfortunately without any background information, except to say that they dated from the 1930's. Though not the original bindings, the ones now fitted are an early form of quick release binding that date from the early 1950's. Up to that time skis and bindings had 'duelled' for both cross country and downhill skiing, but as the sport of purely downhill skiing began to develop, safety bindings, to avoid lower leg injury, developed in tandem and the bindings we see here are an early French version. Whoever owned these skis was obviously moving with the times!
