Provenance

Edsbyn skis take their name from the town where they were made in Sweden where Lars Fredrik Pettersson started a wee joiner’s shop way back in 1899. Like many craftsmen over the decades, Petterson diversified a little from his main business of making furniture as the sport of skiing became ever more popular. In 1934 the Ebsdyn Ski Factory was opened with Fredrik’s son, Ivar, in charge.
By the 1970’s, Edsbyn were one of the world’s biggest ski manufacturers, producing around 400,000 pairs annually.
The pair we have here in the collection seem to be a 1960/70’s version since they have a plastic/ glass fibre top .... an early sign that wooden skis would soon become history and plastic/ glass fibre would be the future.
It seems that having been bought by a company called JOFA in 1984, Edsbyn skis were no longer being made by the 1990’s.
