Henri Lord
England
Henri-Lloyd is a mixture of the company’s founder members names, Henri Strzelocki and Angus Lloyd. Henri was a highly decorated Polish soldier who, having studied textiles and design in the UK after World War Two, teamed up with British businessman, Angus Lloyd, in 1963 to form their company.
Specialising in waterproof clothing, initially for sailing, they soon branched out into the great outdoors and their range of mountaineering jackets and trousers were popular in the 1970’s and 80’s. They did move from the Bri-nylon range to Gore-tex briefly when it became universally used in the 1980’s but that range seems to have died a death, with sailing apparel now the main business; the company having been sold to the Swedish firm,Aligro, in 2018.
The jacket we have here in the collection would appear to date from around 1980 and whilst the outer is Bri-nylon, there appears to be some sort of rubberized lining which did little more than make the wearer sweat more!
