RM Manufacturing and Engineering Co. Ltd., Stanhope St., Birmingham
A bit of a curio this stove which seems to date from the 1960's/70's when the age of paraffin was coming to an end and gas was the new mode of cooking, being cleaner and much easier to light.
R M Manufacturing and Engineering Co. Ltd., Stanhope Street, Birmingham, made this one and it seems the tank was originally made for a paraffin stove and converted for gas - maybe they had a pile of ready made tanks and couldn't sell them as paraffin stoves. The stoves came with a cylinder of gas initially, but when they ran out it was hard to get a new one and it seems the whole project was not a success, though it is a good example of how technology and fashion change.
A friend of Mick Tighe bought this stove for a few pence in a car boot sale.
