Provenance

May 2-6th. Left Dundee and cycled to Laggan Bridge. Got barn for night.
3rd. To Fort William and Glen Nevis Hostel.
4th. Climbed Ben Nevis 4406' by tourist path then descended by Corrie Leas and visited S.M.C. hut where I met seven members there. I managed to induce them to take me up the Observatory Ridge with them. We took six hours to do same. This was my first real big climb and first time ever on Ben Nevis.
5th. Left camp with Creag Dhu than went up on Nevis, was in party of four who did Tower Ridge. I was in second party with Andy Saunders leading.
6th. Left Glen Nevis and got back to Dundee by 10 PM. after perfect weekend.

These entries are from the 1935 diary of George (Scottie) Dwyer and wonderfully illustrate the role that bicycles played in mountaineering back then. They are even more remarkable when you consider that Scottie was cycling from Dundee, over 100 miles away from Nevis.
Unfortunately, we don't have Scottie's bike in our collection, but we have found this lovely little puncture repair outfit, from a slightly later era, and couldn't resist adding it to our collection.
