Italy
The Dolomite story began in 1897 when an Italian gentleman, Joseph Garbulo, started making boots, taking the name of his beloved Italian mountain range, the Dolomites, as his talisman title.
The company evolved into one of the most respected manufacturers of boots in the world of mountaineering.
The Guida La Dolomite Walker appeared in the 1960’s, a quality high mountain boot which would have cost you around £30 at the time.
High quality, yes! but heavy weight too, which sounded the death knell for boots like this with plastic and composite models soon to capture the market…..a pair of modern high mountain boots weigh less than one of these.
The adverts opposite show that MOAC were the UK importers in the 1970’s when Colin Mawson Dixon bought them. Doesn’t look like he used them much and his son in law, Ronnie Guy has kindly passed them on to us - thanks folks.
