Provenance

A portable wash basin .... is not something that campers use much these days and one wonders if we've all become less clean!! Maybe the facilities are better at campsites and we just dive in the loch when camping wild. This one came in a box of stuff donated by Rhoda Chalmers whose husband,Dave, once ran a business called the Clan Tent Company down in Greenock.
Interestingly, the modern day (2012) 'doggy' folk use something almost exactly the same as this, as a portable dog bowl, when out in the wilderness with their canine friends.
The advert opposite is from the 1950's which dates our basin to that era or somewhat earlier.
