Provenance

The critics will no doubt argue the artistic merit of these wee paintings though historicaly they take a special place in the progress of Scottish mountaineering. They speak volumes of the 1950's and 60's when Davie Glen painted them -a working class Scot trying to make a few pounds by selling these little icons to the mountaineering fraternity.
Davie's artistic talent may be be open to debate, though his knowledge of the Scottish mountains is without question, each scene having been painted from an original sketch, very often done on the actual mountain.
Davie's niece, Mina, donated them to our collection in 2012 for which we are very grateful. There's more info about Davie Glen in our archive section.
