The Scottish Mountain Heritage Collection couldn't really be without a 'Clansman' stove, especially when it cost 99p on e-bay. We also need to keep an eye open for two other similar stoves, the Chieftan and the Highlander, to complete the trilogy.
The information sheet with our Clansman gives us a date of 1962 when the various companies, in this case Veritas, were trying to capture the outdoor camp stove market which until that time had been almost totally dominated by paraffin stoves such as Primus, Optimus and Buflam, though Veritas did have a less well known paraffin stove of their own.
For those folk who like a bit of background,'Veritas' is a brand name of the Falk Stadelman Company that began life in the 1880's. Various forms of pressure lamps were big business in the days before electricity and Falk Stadelman were the UK and Europe's best known manufacturers at the time. The company prospered through the early part of the 1900's and in line with other similar firms started moving into butane gas appliances in the 1950's and 60's. For Stadelman Falk (Valor) though, it was the end of the line as difficult trading conditions led to the company being wound up in the late 1960's.
