Provenance

Mick Tighe bought this very fine pair of crampons from a junk shop - yes! The Swiss have them too - in Switzerland back in the 1990's for SFR 20 - around £8.00
A. Huppauf would seem to be the maker, but it's not a name we have come across before, though it is common for small engineering companies in Switzerland to make 'batches' of equipment for the Swiss Army which is one of the largest in Europe. So there's a fair chance that these are ex-Swiss Army from the 1940's or 50's - well made, well used and well cared for by the looks of them.
A. Huppauf seems to be based in Einsiedeln, a town just south of Zurich, more famed for its Benedictine Abbey than crampon manufacturing. Like many of the items we have in the collection, more research would no doubt find out lots of interesting facts, but there are only so many hours in a day!
