Mick Tighe bought this fine pair of ski boots on e-bay for £6.50 in 2012 and whilst the seller listed them as being 'Lillywhite' boots we can't find any evidence of that on the boots, nor can we find a maker's name unfortunately.
Dating from the 1950's, it's a good bet that these boots were distributed by Lillywhites of London, but probably made by somebody else.
The sport of downhill skiing as we know it today hadn't really got going in the 1950's and boots doubled up for both cross-country and downhill; in effect what we would call ski mountaineering these days. The boots would be used in conjunction with a kandahar type cable binding. This pair are of a very high spec and whilst we cannot be certain we think they could be an early version of the 'Kimptons Ski Boot'. The advert opposite shows the Kimpton MK IV - could these be a MK II or III? Fabulous boots whatever and a great addition to our collection.
