1970's mountaineering boots are a bit of a nightmare to identify unless there is a big sign saying what they are - unfortunately there's no sign with this pair!
We are fairly sure, however, that we've got a pair of Galibier 'super guide' boots here as we do have the maker's name, Richard Pontvert, and there is a Makalu sole which 'super guides' were fitted with to make these the iconic mountaineering boot of the 1970's.The boots pictured opposite (in picture 4) have 'Super Guide' on the side whereas ours don't which sows a little seed of doubt, though the one piece leather construction, Norwegian welt stitching and the 'Rolls Royce' look of these boots tell the story - a very fine pair of boots whatever.
This pair once belonged to Mick Tighe's Mountain Guiding Company, Nevis Guides.
