We'd be surprised if these electric socks were ever a commercial success and the fact they are still in the box, unused, nearly 50 years after they were made(circa 1970) kind of proves the point. Ever on the lookout for odd curios, Mick Tighe bought this pair on the internet for a few pounds in 2015.
The heavyweight batteries and wiring system made for a rather complicated setup that would only favour someone who was fairly static,seated on a motor bike or maybe in a boat.
Technology, particularly batteries, has moved on dramatically in the interim and heated socks are common in the outdoors, particularly at altitude extremes. So whilst not very practical as socks, this little item is a nice piece of history to embellish our collection.
