Provenance

We're calling this fabulous pair of bootees, 'bothy slippers' since that seems to sum them up best, though hut slippers might be rather more understandable for those living outwith Bonnie Scotland.
For anyone not acquainted with the term, a 'bothy' is usually a hut, or old cottage, in areas where hillwalkers and climbers would overnight after a hard day on the hill. The big boots would be removed to dry by the fire and the bothy boots donned to keep the feet cosy - if venturing outside to get water or go to the loo a couple of carrier bags would be pulled over the bootees to keep them dry.
Mary Henery kindly donated this lovely pair of bootees when her partner, Bill Skidmore, passed away in 2015. They belonged to Bill but we are not sure who made them. They are
beautifully homemade and we just love the tartan tops!
