Provenance

There were very few outdoor shops back in the 1950's and if you found one a lot of the gear would be ex military and we're taking a guess that pioneer Scottish mountaineeer, Bill Skidmore, paid a visit to one sometime back then and came away with a World War Two parachute. It's possible that he got it for nothing from a pal in the Territorial Army who'd nicked it from the Quartermaster but we would never accuse anyone of doing such a thing!
We do know that this sleeping bag liner is made from World War Two parachute silk and that Bill Skidmore was a prolific maker of his own gear, so it seems likely that sometime back in the 1950/60's he got hold of some silk and made this liner which Bill's widow, Mary, kindly donated to us when Bill passed away in 2015.
