Provenance

This lovely United States Army stove is nicknamed the Pocket Stove and just like everything else in America they must have had "BIG' pockets!
It seems that the 530 was a follow on from the very similar 520 which was used by the US Army during the Second World War and the date code - A46 - indicates that it was manufactured in the early part of 1946 when Coleman were probably looking for a new civilian market and/or just using up materials left over from the war.
The tank is nickel plated and the cooking pots, which double up as a carrying case, are made from aluminium.
The stove is allegedly multi fuel though while it may well work with a variety of fuels, the more refined the better since 'dirtier' fuels tend to clog the system. There is, however, a hand operated cleaning needle to help clear 'soot' and other impurities.
This lovely, almost mint condition, stove comes courtesy of our collector friend, Art McCarthy, over in California. Founder of our collection, Mick Tighe, got a wee 'swap shop' deal going back in 2014 and this stove was a part shipment of a 'deal'. Thanks Art.
