The Americans - in particular Marmot - call a jacket without any sleeves a vest, whereas in the UK and certainly in Scotland it would be called a waste of money and a recipe for cold arms - a vest was what grandad wore under his shirt and if you want a waistcoat you'll need a pocket watch to go with it!
Well, maybe it's the weather, but vests are far more popular in America where Marmot are based and one assumes they don't sell too many in the UK, though they do sell lots of other gear which is good, functional and somewhat more practical for the UK environment.
A good friend of ours was given this vest for free as part of a sponsorship deal back in the 1990's and finding nothing better to do with it, he gave it to us!
