Scotland
Tulloch is little more than a railway station surrounded by a few other buildings, on the West Highland Railway Line which runs from Glasgow to Mallaig through some of Scotland's wildest and most beautiful scenery. It was in one of those other buildings, around 1970, that Dave Challis decided to set up a small business to manufacture outdoor clothing and run outdoor education courses. The business was called Tulloch Mountain Craft(TMC)
TMC does not seem to have been a huge commercial success though they did produce some interesting and innovative clothing at a time when there were few other players in the market. They also used a work at home system whereby local folk would have cut material and patterns delivered to their door to be collected as a finished product sometime later - an excellent concept in theory, but one with major difficulties in organisation and quality control.
Very little TMC gear has survived and one reason seems to be that folk liked it so much they used it to destruction. We are therefore, especially pleased to have this mint condition jacket which has been stored in various lofts for over 40 years by members of the Grant family.
RH(Dickie) Grant was a director of the company towards the end of its life- late 1970's - and this jacket found its way to his grandson, Andy, who kindly donated it to our collection.
