Troll equipment in Lancashire were one of the first UK companies to embrace the new nylon tape technology that came along in the 1960's and were instrumental in moving climbers from the age of hemp waist lines into a new world of the climbing harness. Using their pioneering technique of stitching tape together, rather than tying a knot in it, Troll produced a range of belts and harnesses in the 1960's that pretty much captured the market.
One of the earliest belts to come onto the market was the simple Troll Waistbelt that we have here in the collection which we think dates from around 1968/9.
It's made simply from a single piece of nylon tape with a buckle sewn on the end and a protective sheath added. The triangular buckle is for attaching rope and karabiners which can be slid around to the required position.
Despite being nearly 50 years old at the time of writing this one is pretty much in mint condition.
Thanks to our good friend and Mountain Guide, Dave Siviter, for donating it.
