The Central Council of Physical Recreation (CCPR) began running courses at Glenmore Lodge, in the Cairngorms, in 1947, based at what is now the Glenmore Youth Hostel. The official courses began in July 1948 and there followed a steady stream of young outdoor enthusiasts for decades to come.
The friendships made on these courses led to the idea that a club should be formed to include folk who had attended, and enjoyed the great outdoors. In the words of a founder member
" the club was originally set up as a continuity activity for people who had 'graduated' from a Glenmore course"
The Glasgow Glenmore Club came into being in 1954, with a guy called Ronnie Crawford as the founder member. He was later replaced by Peter McKinley and it's one of his badges that we have here in the collection - the other belonged to another early member, David Corbett. The badges look to be handmade though we can't be certain. They are very fine whatever and as the club seems to have changed its logo (2017) these badges realy are a bit of history.
