We’ve kept this little bunch of ski gear together as it was donated as a ‘job lot’ by Nick Haigh on behalf of his parents. Thanks to the whole family.
Bonna skis were produced in Lommedalen, Norway, first appearing on the market in 1959. The Lett Turski ( light touring ski) version we have here in the collection was the standard, budget ski for all the family, whereas the 1800 was pretty much the Rolls Royce of the brand, though the innovative lignostone edges could de-laminate. As with all wooden skis, the 1950’s + 60’s saw them coming to perfection in construction only to be superceded by fibreglass skis in the 1970’s, which sounded the death knell for the wooden variety. The Bonna brand disappeared in the 1980’s.
We don’t know much about Trak Ski Poles, though they seem to be Austrian and this pair are of the classic 1960’s/70’s cane construction. They are in mint condition as are the skis.
If you are interested in old skis there is an excellent site on the internet....Classic Ski Brands and Manufacturers. i.e. www.woodenskis.com
Not sure of the exact connection but Karrimor were selling Trak Skis, poles and boots back in the 1980's so we assume they were the UK importer.
