The Karrimor Chamonix Rucksack appeared in the late 1960’s, one of the many different varieties to come out of the Accrington factory where Karrimor were based at the time. It was aimed at Alpine climbers; hard wearing, a simple design
(including a nice covered crampon carrier) and a 45/50 litre carrying capacity.
Interestingly, an American company callled Alpine Luddites specialise in recreating certain vintage items from days gone by and the Chamonix is one of them - picture opposite. An original would have cost you around £30 in 1968, a replica costs £ 246, 50 years later!
