Provenance

We have lots of ‘homemade’ items in the collection but only two pairs of crampons, an illustration, perhaps, of how difficult they are to make.
Our good friend, John Fraser, bought this pair at a car boot saie in 2019 for £5.00. They appear to have been cut and folded from a sheet of aluminium by a fairly skilled hand. There is little wear and we wonder if they have ever been used. We also wonder if the aluminium would have survived once it had been trampled over an acre or two of rock and ice. The neoprene straps give us a clue to the date of manufacture since they first appeared in the 1960’s.
Unfortunately, we don’t know the maker but thanks in absentia for an interesting timepiece.
