Provenance

Having initially worked in conjunction with a company called Barker & Dennison, Terrasse. W Co. seem to have gone it alone when they produced this pocket compass in 1918. The military arrow tells us that it was issued by the Ministry of Defence with officers usually being the recipiants.
Many of these military compasses were used extensively by outdoor folk after the war which seems to be the case with this one as it belonged to Alfie Ingram’s grandfather. We don’t know grandad’s name but we do know he and Alfie were accomplished mountaineers and early members of the Carn Dearg Mountaineering Club in Dundee.
Alfie kindly donated it to us in 2019 having inherited it from his grandfather.
