Provenance

A company called M H Berlyn & Co. made paraffin stoves back in the good old days as part of their gardening and horticulture business. It seems they began around 1905 and their paraffin stoves were initially for heating greenhouses. At some point they saw a market for cooking and camping stoves, the one we have here being in the cooking category; not one you would normally put in your rucksack. This was a time in the 1930/40/50’s when electricity was new and not everyone had it, so paraffin cookers and tilley lamps were the norm.
Not exactly sure where this one came from but we do know it was pretty much rusted out - a bit like its smaller pal in the photo opposite. We cleaned it up, got some matching paint from Halfords, polished the tanks and now it’s new again - well nearly.
Excellent little project and fine addition to our collection - just need to get the wee one sorted now.
