MOAC
England
Mountain Guide, Peter Gentil, and his pal, Bob Brigham, who owned an outdoor shop, got together in 1959/60 to form an organisation called Mountaineering Activities and they took the first two letters of each word to make the title M.O.A.C.
Whilst Peter did get involved in Mountaineering Activities, M.O.A.C also produced outdoor gear, including the legendary MOAC, one of the world’s first massed produced ‘nuts’ for rock climbing protection.
They also produced a few clothing items; we have a MOAC shirt and a battered old oiled cotton jacket elsewhere in the collection.
This fine pair of gaiters are the latest addition; in classic 1970’s style, heavy duty canvas with waterproof coating and laces which went under the instep of your boots and lasted about five minutes before you replaced them with a bit of wire!
Unfortunately, we’ve lost the donator’s details - thanks anyway.
