Provenance

M.O.A.C. Is the shortened version of MOuntaineering ACtivities, an organisation formed in the late 1960’s by Mountain Guide, Peter Gentil and shop owner, Ellis Brigham. The organisation produced climbing equipment which could be sold in Brigham’s shops and elsewhere. It also ran outdoor activity courses under Peter’s guidance.
Their most famous production by far was the MOAC nut, invented/ created by John Brailsford but made and marketed by MOAC the company.
MOAC seemed to have teamed up with parachute harness makers, Irvine, at some point, and between them they produced some of the earliest belts and harnesses for rock climbing, an example of which we have here in the collection. It combines an Irvine waist belt and a set of of MOAC leg loops.
It was a pretty embryonic idea which didn’t work too well as there was no real link between the leg loops and the belt meaning a fall would still rattle the rib cage!
An excellent item of heritage whatever.
Just put MOAC into the quick search for an array of MOAC items.
