Provenance

The company, George Morris & Co. in Birmingham, were busy making iron bedsteads and copper pans in the 1800’s but around 1906 they diversified a little and started making camping kettles and picnic hampers to cater for the ever growing outdoor market.
George used his surname spelt backwards to create the brand name, Sirram.
The pressurised paraffin stove, in the form of Primus, had only been invented a few years earlier, so with Primus stoves and associated paraffin not readily available, Sirram stuck with methylated spirit and solid fuel to ‘fire’ their stoves and kettles.
Kettle sets were often part of a picnic hamper but could be bought separately and their seems to been a vast array, one of which we have here in the collection.
Not sure of the date, could be as early as the 1930’s but more likely 1950’s, though Sirram seems to have disappeared by then.
Not quite sure where we got this one but it needed a bit of TLC and you wouldn’t fancy a cup of tea made in it!
