British Royal Marine Commandos were deployed to Northern Norway in the 1970’s as part of the ‘Russian deterent’ during the Cold War, since it was feared the Muscovites might invade through Scandanavia to gain access to the Atlantic.
The Marines were issued with a variety of equipment; British, Norwegian and Canadian and this camouflage top was part of the kit.
The ID label has been washed out for ID purposes but we are fairly sure this is a Norwegian top from the 1960’s, possibly earlier. Founder of our Heritage Collection, Mick Tighe, worked with the Norwegian Jaeger Troop in the 1970’s and they used a similar top. We are now wondering if he forgot to return this one when he left!
