Sibley & Roos
USA
The story goes that American climber, Royal Robbins, came over to the UK in the 1960’s and found British climbers festooned with their newly created ‘nuts’…Acorns, M.O.A.C.s and hexagonals so he took a bunch of them home to show his mates and the nut revolution began in the USA.
Billy Roos and Paul Sibley seem to have been the first to create the American ‘nut’
“we were the first in the US to manufacture climbing nuts….the Brits were clearly first, with MOACs and some hexes. We basically copied the hexes”
Sibley and Roos started production in 1968 using the name of the state in which they lived as their product logo.
Hexagonals seem to have been the mainstay of the range, though we understand there may have been other products. The company didn’t last very long and we are not sure of the date when
“ The combination of not wanting to spend 8 hours a day on the chop, saw and drill press….we just let the company go. Hey, we had girlfriends with trust funds, so we didn’t really need to work that hard!!”
So Colorado nuts came and went pretty quickly, making them a collector’s item if nothing else.
This one was kindly posted over from the US by our good friend, Art McCarthy.
