Sometimes called Razor Blades and looking very similar to the American R.U.R.P ( Realised Ultimate Reality Piton ) these Clog Pitons first appeared around 1970 when Denny Moorehouse and his partner, Shirley Smith, were in the early stages of building their Clogwyn Climbing Gear empire in North Wales.
Artificial, or aid climbing, was still a popular activity then but British climbers had been using mostly imported pitons from the continent. Clog sought to rectify this with their own array of ‘pegs’ made from molybdenum steel.
These ones once belonged to our old pal, Smiler Cuthbertson, and it seems he acquired them when working at Clog in the 1970’s. Smiler went off to the big piton factory in the sky a while back and his wife, Clare, kindly passed them onto us.
