Provenance

Another very fine addition to our collection of Hamish MacInnes’s all metal ice axes, first produced by him in Glencoe and in conjunction with the engineering company, Massey, down in England.
The Ministry of Defence (MOD) bought hundreds of these axes in the 1960/70’s, their robust construction making them ideal for military use. This one bears the War Department arrow stamped on the head below the 1970 date. There’s also a procurement or Military designation code alongside.
The donator, Jon Jones, acquired the axe in a Bangor junk shop and thinks it might have come from RAF Valley down the road when they were having a clearout.
