Provenance

They called him ‘Mr Cairngorms’ on account of his vast knowledge of the mountain range also referred to as the Grampians.
Ecologist, mountaineer, skier, author and well kent figure on his native Deeside, Adam Watson spent a lifetime in the mountains, often studying his two great passions - the ptarmigan and snow patches; monitoring the latter year on year in connection with climate change.
We have one of Adam’s primus stoves here in the collection, kindly donated by his daughter, Jenny.
The date code on the tank tells us it was made in 1953 which would be roughly when Adam acquired it.
The picture opposite, taken by Tom Weir, shows Adam cooking his bacon on a primus though it doesn’t look like the one we have here in the collection.
