Our old pal Alex Gillespie salvaged this remarkable picture from an old glass plate slide. Dating from around 1880 it shows the Peat Moss Weather Station below Ben Nevis – where the aluminium factory is now – with, we think, Clement Wragge in the background. At this time Wragge was ascending Ben Nevis on a daily basis to make weather observations. His work eventually led to the building of a weather observatory on the summit in 1883.
