Provenance:
As with most cameras there have been multiple models and variations over the decades though we are fairly sure this is an Agfa-Karat dating from 1938, our donator, Dieter Schwartz confirms this as he bought it just after the Second World War and used it on various mountain adventures in his own country (Germany) and in the Alps.

The camera features a ‘strut folding’ system whereby the lens comes out from the body a wee bit to enhance the focal range, it required a film cassette which came with 12 frames and – we think – a square format.

Much more on the camera and many others on the excellent Camera-wiki website, thanks to Dieter meanwhile who has hung up his boots and his cameras!
