Eli Belovitch and Harry Grosberg founded the Belstaff company in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, back in 1924. Waterproof clothing was their main product back then, with the focus on waxed cotton, which soon became very popular with the motorbike fraternity and led to the iconic Trialmaster Jacket famously worn by Che Guevara on his motorbike journey through South America in 1951 – check out his book ‘The Motorcycle Diaries’.
Belstaff began to diversify a little in the 1960s, creating golfing and leisure-wear for outdoor folk, and we reckon the anorak we have here in the collection dates from that era. Unfortunately we have no record of the donator, though the anorak itself is in very good condition, an excellent sign of the times.
