Provenance:
Compton Webb were well known for making motor cycle helmets in the 1950’s and from around 1960 they also started making climbing helmets. We are not 100% sure, but assume that they also made combat helmets; they certainly made the covers since that’s what we have here in the collection. Though a little ‘off’ now, it would have been white originally and part of a white camouflage suit designed for arctic warfare. You’ll find a suit elsewhere in the collection. The suit and helmet cover both date from around 1975.
