Gunther Gabriel is the man behind GAB, the company that made this ice screw. He’s based in Germany, and in 2010 he seems to be making GAB crampons and nothing else with the same trade name, though we understand his company makes stuff for other people. Andy MacDonald gave us the screw which doesn’t seem to have been used since he bought it back in the 70’s. We are not quite sure what the bit on the top is for – it seems a bit elaborate for a ‘screw in’ handle, though that’s probably what it is.
