Provenance:
We’re not sure of the spelling, but a French company called Raoul Poultry Household Supplies began life in Bellegarde, Ain, back in 1912. We are sure that they started making all kinds of things from aluminium shortly after the Second World War, using the brand name Grand Tetras (Le Grande Tetras Bellegarde, Ain).

Aluminium was the ideal material for camping, lightweight, robust and pretty easy to clean. A host of different items appeared in the 1950/60s which is when our little egg carrier arrived during what could be called the ‘golden age’ of camping. A good fry-up was the standard breakfast of the times with the wonderful smell of bacon & eggs wafting round the campsite. Fresh eggs, rather than boiled, would be required for the ‘fry’ and our little carrier would have got them safely to the pan.
