Another fine set of homemade nuts/chocks bought on the internet for a few pounds in 2023. Dating from the 1960’s, they reflect an era when few commercially made nuts were generally available and ‘proper’ climbers reckoned they couldn’t afford them anyway. The answer was to pinch a lump of aluminium from the factory workshop and fashion some nuts in the garden shed. This left ready cash available for the requisite 15 pints of beer required each night on the subsequent climbing weekend.
