Provenance:
Denny Moorhouse & Shirley Smith founded the Clog factory in Deiniolen, North Wales in 1966. Rock pitons & hexagonal nuts for rock climbing were the main products in the early days though the range of products soon grew, there are lots of them elsewhere in our collection.

The ice screws seem to have appeared in the early 1970s, one of the many variations to follow on from the early corkscrew versions. Most of these early versions were cumbersome, difficult to place and it took an age to clean the ice out of the tube once they’d been used, they were soon superseded by bigger, better, easier to place titanium ones – ice climbers could relax a little more!

We found this lot in our ‘screw box’.
