Provenance:
First lady ofScottish skiing, Myrtle Simpson, took herself, her husband and their children off to Resolute Bay in Canada in 1969. Leaving the children in good hands they headed for the North Pole, the story of which can be read in her book, Due North, published in 1970. The Inuit women in Resolute looked after the children really well and made this lovely pair of ‘kamiks’ for Bruce Simpson who was then aged 7. They’ve been stored in Myrtle’s loft ever since and now, nearly 40 years later we are trying to preserve them. Kamiks are usually made from sealskin or sometimes caribou and tend to be a smaller version of the Mukluks which you will find elsewhere in the collection.
