Karrimor had lots of good ideas back in the good old days; the Tote-em packframe was one of them, cheap, light and versatile, so versatile that just about anything could be attached. Famous mountaineer and mountain rescuer, Hamish MacInnes, used them for toting his mountain rescue stretchers around.
The frame we have here in the collection has a Karrimor rucksack attached. This particular sack was designed specifically to compliment the Tote-em frame but does have its own carrying straps and can be separated from the frame and used independently by undoing a few screws and unthreading a few straps- versatility.
There were other variations to the theme as can be seen in the 1970’s Graham Tiso catalogue opposite.
This type of frame was very popular with the back packing and camping fraternity but not so with climbers as the frame got caught on everything.
Internal frame sacs have pretty much taken over from the packframe though they still have adherents.
We have lots more on the history of Karrimor elsewhere in the collection and loads more rucksacks.
