Provenance:
We had this water bottle listed on its own initially, without any provenance. We’ve now found a worthy companion and some excellent provenance. We don’t think the bottle is an original 1944 Pattern as there are no markings, and the originals had a metal top, not a plastic one. The mug, however, is the real deal with appropriate markings and an interesting history. Founder of our collection, Mick Tighe, was a Royal Marine Commando back in the 1960s and was posted to Singapore in 1969. He was issued with this mug on arrival, and it became his constant companion for the next 18 months. Much of that time was spent in the Malayan jungle, where the mug was used for cooking food, and hot drinks. We’ve replaced the small piece of black masking tape that was always in place to stop burnt lips on the hot metal.

N.B. 1944 Pattern is a range of military equipment designed for use in jungle terrain.
